"July was one popular month for weddings. As we're wrapping up July, the amazing photographer who came to mind for our studio spotlight this month was Mary Jane. Located in Santa Barbara, California, her timeless, fashionable images capture a love story between two people. Mary Jane's photographs intertwines the joy, laughter and beauty of the day which shows the intimate connection between the couple. I know by looking at her photographs they are an expression of a mirrior image of the photograper herself.

I feel very fortunate that such a fantastic photographer has entrusted Albumesque by allowing us to design her clients albums, which enables us to complete the beginning of every couple's love story.

NEW PACKAGE | le petite

We are often asked if Albumesque offers smaller packages without design sessions. So, by popular demand we've decided to add the Le Petite package. This package is $7 per side and does not include any design sessions. If there are any changes they will have to be made by the photographer. Just make sure to reference Le Petite on your order form if you're interested in taking advantage of this new package.

We know that many of you dread the whole album process, so we've made it a goal to make it as easy as possible on photographers. If you're ready to get started as an Albumesque client then follow the steps below. Of course if you have any additional questions please feel free to e-mail info@albumesque.com

1: Fill out the Albumesque online Order Form

2: We'll send you an invoice with payment options and address/ftp information - NOTE: Please contact us when the images are on the server so we know when to grab them.

3: Once the images and payment are received we will e-mail you a Showit Web slideshow for you to view your album design. You will receive this within 7 to 9 working days.

4: If your package includes design sessions then send us an e-mail with the requested changes (NOTE that 10 changes are allowed per design session). An updated slideshow will be sent to you. Once the final changes have been approved, we will mail you the unflattened PSD's. NOTE: if you live outside the US we will ftp the PSD's to you.

5: If your package does not include design sessions please send us an e-mail confirming that you've received your Showit slideshow and we'll send your unflattened PSD's to you asap.

NOTE: please note that once the first slideshow is emailed to you, you have one year to confirm your design and receive your PSD's. After 1 year the files will be deleted without any notification or compensation to the photographer or bride.

Just recently I designed a sample album for Jamie Stoia. The reception was based around The Beatles theme, and the details were out of this world! Very unique and beautiful! Honestly the whole wedding is gorgeous and I had a hard time choosing which layouts to highlight in this blog post so I'm going to include quite a few. Jamie's work is timeless and just out right BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Jamie, it's been a privilege working with you on this project and I look forward to working with you in the future:)

If the wedding season isn't in full swing yet we are sure that engagement sessions definitely are. Another way to showcase your work and help you stand out is guest sign-in albums (GSI). With the GSI we leave plenty of white space for the guests to write keepsake memories for the bride and groom on their wedding day. As the Christmas deadlines are approaching we know that many brides are in a hurry to receive their album design, asap. So we're always working on simplifying our process. Just follow the process below and it will all be smooth sailing :)

ALBUMESQUE PROCESS::

1:: Fill out the online order form

ORDER FORM

2:: We'll send you an invoice with payment options and address/ftp information.

3:: Ftp or mail us your images. Two options with sending images...
::Send us either the bride's or photographer's must haves.
::Or you can send us an optional and must have folder. Please note that the max amount of images that we'll accept is 200-250.
::Please contact us when all the images are on the server.

4:: Once the images and payment are received we will send a Showit Web slideshow to you within 7 to 9 working days, for you to view your album design.

4:: If your package includes design sessions then send us an e-mail with the requested changes (note that 10 changes are allowed per design session). An updated slideshow will be sent to you. Once the final changes have been approved, we will send the unflattened PSD's to you.

Summer is in full swing and I hope it's been a very enjoyable one for everybody! Like most of us, the Summer usually consists of a go go go mentality and the next thing you know it's over :( Hope everyone not only works hard but also gets the chance to play hard as well :)

This last week I had the privilege to design a few albums for David and Tammy Molnar. They're a husband and wife team Located in Nashville, TN. All I can say is they're AMAZING!!!! I started designing for them last year and right from the beginning I was blown away by their amazing talent. The getting ready, details, bride and groom shots, etc, were are all jaw dropping amazing images:)

I've never met them in person, but just working with them, and seeing how much fun their clients have, I can tell they're two of the sweetest people. Definitely check out their website and their extremely cute picture of the two of them.

So much to be thankful for and we hope that Joy and Love over flows your lives and hearts during this time, and follows you into the New Year:)

Another year has passed and looking back through the year we are reminded that there's so much to be thankful for. Here at Albumesque we are very thankful for all our clients and are in awe with all the amazing photographers that we get to work with throughout the year. We're excited to keep building those relationships and look forward to building new ones as well.

One photographer that I love working with, and I'm left with excitement and amazement every time I see their images, is the Krakoras. They're amazing! Not only is their work just plain fantastic but they are the sweetest, real, down to earth people you will ever meet. I love designing for them! There is one thing I’m certain, we have been blessed with incredible clients. Talented photographers, yes--but it goes beyond this. It’s funny how you can get to know somebody’s character simply by how they correspond through email. This was the case with Micah Gilmore…his humble, genuine, and lighthearted nature was evident immediately through his words, and it consistently shows up in his work.

Micah and his wife work together, and make quite the team. I’m certain it’s the love and appreciation they have for each other that makes this job so easy and fun for them…you notice the comfort and ease that they bring to their couples and the result is something wonderful. Their style rests somewhere between candid fun and trendy classic, often resembling something out of a Banana Republic magazine. Most importantly, they cater to the couple’s personality types and this is revealed with each photograph.

Here at Albumesque, we truly are thankful for the amazing photographers that we get to work with day in and day out. We're extremely excited to finally announce the launch of the New Albumesque website. You will find quick and easy access in ordering an album, step by step process that will take place when you're an Albumesque client, as well as new and updated designs. A team effort took place with the designing of the website but I have to give most of the credit to Emily, one of the amazing designers at Albumesque, who really designed the majority of the site and through her perfection made the site come to life. Emily, thank you for giving the site that beautiful, modern, edgy Emily flare:)

Most of the time designing or launching websites can be a NIGHTMARE but honestly I have to say that working with Showit Sites was such a joy. Not only was the program an extremely user friendly program but the customer service and people there were just awesome and made our experience an enjoyable one. A big thanks to Andrew and the rest of the Showit Team, we love you:)

Client: Dane Sanders : Just stunning

Albumesque has been designing for Dane Sanders for over two years now and it's truly been a honor working and getting to know him as a client and a friend. His photography is amazing and I always look forward to starting each design. He covers it all.... The details, fashion, portraits, and photojournalism. You name it, he's got it! Here's a recent design that I just finished for Dane. The images were just stunning and I really fell in love with this wedding.

New Client: Nicole Chatham

It's always a thrill to receive an album order from a new client. Better than that, though, is receiving the actual images that will make up the album! Patience is demanded as I allow the download process, as I often want to sneak a peak at the fresh array of photographs that await me. I'm happy to say they are almost always worth the wait! Most certainly proving true with one of our newest clients, Nicole Chatham!

Nicole Chatham, is an Austin, TX based wedding photographer who I recently had the pleasure of designing an engagement album for. The most difficult part in designing this album was deciding which images to use, because they all struck me with such awe! From location scouting to capturing emotion between the couple...Nicole is an incredibly gifted photographer. Along with that, she is extra kind and sincere! Visit her beautifully designed WEBSITE where you can check out more of her work and also hear a great song (given, she IS from the live music capital of the world--so her taste in fine music shouldn't be a shock)!! :)

One of most frequently asked questions that we receive is "how do I get started". Becoming an Albumesque client is extremely easy. Of course a new process is might seem scary at first and the thought of going through one more process might seem overwhelming when thinking about it, but don't worry it's not:) Below is our process! Also remember that you can e-mail us anytime with questions and we'll be more then happy to walk you through the process.

ALBUMESQUE PROCESS:

1. Send us an e-mail with the album info.
2. We'll send you an invoice with payment options and address/ftp information.
(If you decide to ftp the images, please e-mail us when the images are on the server or when you've sent the dvd.)
3. Once the images and payment are received we will have a slideshow to you in 7 to 9 working days.
4. Once the design is complete we will send you a showit Web slideshow for you to view your album design.
5. If your package includes design sessions then send us an e-mail with the requested changes. (NOTE: With each design sessions you can make 10 changes.) While our hope is that you love and enjoy all of our designs, we understand that not everyone shares the same design preference. That is why Albumesque is happy to offer three different types of design styles, and we leave it to you to decide which one best fits your needs! So, what’s your style?

Le Simple
Some believe that less is more! Simple designs, simple borders--or no borders at all!...it’s your call! :) With no overlapping or layering, this classic design leaves lasting impressions.

Layers can be fun! This design option utilizes more complex layouts, creatively layering images and including fades. With the addition of colors and borders, you can add a whole new dynamic to your album!

Keeping up with Dane Sanders

Designing to me has to be one of the most relaxing things, I would say it falls right under running:) Designing is also very exciting as well. I love receiving an order and opening the folder to see what that photographer has captured for that event. One photographer that always inspires me and blows me away is Dane Sanders. Dane travels all over for wedding photography and I love seeing where he's been. For the last two weddings he was sent to Hawaii for one and Mexico for another. The images were breath taking and I can't wait to post the Mexico wedding as well. Not only is Dane busy with weddings, but he also runs a forum, keeps up with his blog and just finished writing a book called "Fast Track Photographer".

For Dane I design 10x14 vertical flushmount, LeatherCraftsmen albums. LC does a great job and I would highly recommend checking them out.

I'm always asked what album company I would recommend and as of right now I would say that Leathercraftsmen and Kiss Wedding Books are two of my favorite album companies. I'm also looking into the Couture Books. As a designer I don't really get to see very many of the end products but I saw a few of their albums at WPPI and I was impressed.

For this album I designed the Le MIx album design style, just in case a few of you were wondering:)

A couple of weeks ago I finished an album design for Me Ra Koh. When Me Ra approached me with this album she said she wanted me to try something a little bit different. Large images, a few small and the bride and grooms vowels throughout the album is how she described her vision for the album design. The Kennedy's have an album very similar and after seeing their book I thought it was a great idea and worth branching out of my design comfort box:) (As I like to call it}. With the Kennedy album style in mind and a little bit of "Amy Flare":) this is what I came up with.

The images that I was working with were amazing and very inspiring. I'm not a huge fan for including words in an album but as soon as I started reading their vowels I again realized that they had to be included because it described the love that the couple had for each other and it brought the album to life.

I think it's so funny how I was hesitant to branch out and try something new but once I started designing I was very thankful that I stepped out of the box and hope to do it more often:)

His photography business, Threshold Visions, is located in New York and I'm always so excited to see the work that he sends me. Our featured photographer for the month of June is the one and only, Sara France! Boasting with style and personality, you are surely missing out if you have never met her! Outgoing, funny, and always ready for a good timeshe is an instant magnet. Her albums are a joy to design, as she never fails to leave me in awe with the amazing photographs she is able to capture of the bride and groom. She has been a spokesperson for Apple, had her weddings featured on Wedding Channel, published in Ceremony Magazine, and the list keeps going. This girl is one busy bee and is hard to keep up with! Simple + Clean = Fashionable

I've always been a huge fan of matted albums but now I'm really into flushmount albums that are designed very simple, clean, and contemporary. No layering will be found in these albums:) Jasmine Star has me design all her albums this way and I think it really goes extremely well with her beautiful work. Here's an album design that we just finished. I try to make the strong images more prominent so they stand out, but as you can see all her images are amazing so the most difficult time I have is trying to decide which one to enlarge.

Lovin' the color

This last week I finished designing an album for Jared Wilson, who is a incredibly talented photographer. A couple of things that I absolutely loved about this wedding was the location, architecture, and amazing color. It looked like it was an amazing wedding and I truly enjoyed designing the album:) For the design style I did a "Le Mix" which I think fit the couple extremely well.

Layers can be fun! This design option utilizes more complex layouts, creatively layering images and including fades. With the addition of colors and borders, you can add a whole new dynamic to your album!

So the other day I came across the cutest quote that said " I hope you do what you love and love what you do". I couldn't agree more and I know that I have applied this quote to my life and I'm very thankful that I get to do what I love:) I hope it's the same for you!!!!!!
This last week I also finished an album design for Dane Sanders and he totally rocked this wedding. I loved everything about it, the portraits, details, group shots, facial expressions, you name it. I've included a couple of spreads so you can see for yourself:)

I also went to Dane's website the other day and he had the most amazing video explaining why he loves photography and the impact that it has made in his life. It also shows his wonderful family that is just so darn cute, it will leave you smiling! CHECK IT OUT!

Not only do I feel completely fortunate and blessed to be working with some of the most amazing photographers but I also get to work with amazing designers as well. Denise is one of our designers and has been one for several months now. I'm always in awe with the albums she designs and I'm thrilled to have her on the Albumesque design team:)

Every once in a while Abumesque will get a design request for something other then wedding and engagement albums. Well this time it was a sports album. I can honestly say that I LOVED designing this album. Jerry Lai is based out of Chicago and he is an amazing sports photographer and I was truly inspired by every single image that I had to work with. Engagement Albums!!!!!

How many of you offer engagement albums? It's something that I think photographers should take advantage of and start offering them in your wedding packges. It's another a great way for people to see your work and start talking about you. I've posted a couple engagement albums that I've designed for Jasmine Star and recently I started designing engagement albums for Christopher Duggan. He's an amazing photographer located in New York City and he's also one of the sweetest/amazing guys you will ever meet. Sorry girls, he's married:) I met him recently at the New York Photo Expo and it was such an honor to finally meet him in person. Definitely check out his website:)

Horizontal albums all the way:)

One of the most frequent questions I'm asked is do I prefer vertical, square, or horizontal albums. if you prefer a more clean and simple design, which is how I design, then horizontal is the only way to go:)

I have the privilege of designing for Jennifer Dunham Starr, who is an amazing photographer, and she has me design horizontal albums for her. When she asked me if I thought her images would work well in a horizontal format I knew right away that it would look amazing. Here are a few of the layouts from one of the most recent albums that I've designed for her. Also, if you want to be inspired then check out her website, you will be in awe.

Merry Christmas!!!!!!!

I can't believe that Christmas is almost here:) We had every intention on taking an Albumesque Christmas picture but we are running out of time so this will have to do. Last week Janey and I went to the Santa Barbara Pug Christmas Party which was held at David Jay's house. It was so great to meet up with everyone and to meet some new faces as well. Tons of food, great company, and a photobooth, what else could you ask for:)

I also wanted too let you know that Albumesque will be closed the 21st through the 2nd. We will be accepting orders but the deadlines for those will be extended. If you need it right away just send me an e-mail and I will see what we can do:)

Thanks to all of you who have made this year so amazing. We are thankful for every single one of our Albumesque clients and have enjoyed getting to know you this past year. Can't wait to see what 2008 has instore:)

WOW, I can't believe how long it's been since I've updated our blog. Well, I have lots to post so keep your eyes open this week for designs that the Albumesque team has been working on. When you become an Albumesque client you get to work with one designer the whole time. Depending on the type of design style you like, determines on what ALbumesque designer you'll be paired up with. Sara France is a photographer that I'm privileged and excited to be designing for. She likes simple, clean designs with very little layering, which is exactly how I love to design. For those of you that are going to Partnercon LA, you won't wanna miss this party. Kiss Wedding Books and Showit are throwing one crazy/fun party and I'll totally be there.

I'm sure you've all heard about Kiss Wedding Books, if not definitely check them out, because you are soooo missing out. They offer an amazing product and I recommend that everyone order an album through them. Albumesque will also submit the order directly to Kiss for no extra charge. YAY!

Showitfast.com is an amazing slideshow program, and if you don't have it already get it. It's perfect for portrait slideshows, weddings, birthdays, etc etc etc. It makes a slideshow in minutes. It's so easy.

If I had to use one word to describe this engagement session, photographed by Chris Humphreys, it would be BREATHTAKING!!!!! I'm always impressed and wowed at all the images that Chris sends me. Actually picking the images was the hardest part because every image that Chris gave me was album worthy, however, there wasn't enough room for all of them so I had to close my eyes and pick...haha j/k:) Great job Chris, and I look forward to working with you again soon!

Engagement albums are something that photographers often forget about, and very few even offer them. For those who do offer them, I love hearing the success stories and impact that they have on their business. They serve as a great marketing tool to get your name out and get people talking about you and your work. Jasmine is one photographer who has started offering engagement albums to her brides. When Jasmine contacted me about this album, she mentioned that she wanted a very simple/clean design since it will be used as a sign-in guest book. When designing this album I totally fell in love with her photography and felt very fortunate that she hired me to design this album. If I was getting married I would definitely hire her to photograph my engagement session. She's amazing!!!!! She also just launched her new blog so don't forget to check it out.

This week I had the oppertunity to design an album for an amazing photographer by the name of Mary Basnight, who is located in North Carolina. Not only is she one of the nicest ladies that I have ever worked with but her work blew me away. She attended the Extreme seminar that was hosted by LIANA LEHMAN and JESSICA CLAIRE, which is how she heard about Albumesque. THANKS GIRLS:) Mary captures detail shots that are out of this world. When designing albums, the first thing that must be decided is the design style. There are so many different ways to design an album and it all comes down to personal preference. Albumesque caters to lots of different styles from complex to extremely simple. I always discuss in detail with each of my clients what style would compliment their work the most and please their clientele.

I just finished designing an album for Geoff Johnson, who is an amazing photographer from Omaha, Nebraska. For this particular album he wanted no background images. However, he emphasized that he thought full bleed images and panos were the style of this particular bride. Overall, he wanted a very simple album design, which is extremely classy in my opinion. The bride loved it and ordered the album as is with no changes. I was impressed that Geoff knew this bride well enough to know what kind of album design would fit her style.

So, the more you know your bride and what makes them happy, the easier album designing will be!

I receive e-mails from people all over the world who ask "can Albumesque work for my business even though I live in a different country". The answer is absolutely!!!! Brigitte is a wedding photographer located in Switzerland and we've been designing for her photography business the last couple of months now.

I love getting to know all the photographers that I work with. One thing that stands out about Brigitte is she's very involved in the photography industry in Switzerland. A group of them have actually put together a website where they can refer weddings to each other. Her attitude is amazing when it comes to the photography industry and I admire that.

I hope you all had the most amazing Christmas:) Albumesque is back in the swing of things. I just finished an album for the Costa's. Their photography is amazing and one thing that I absolutely love is their getting ready and detail shots. Definitely take a look at their album. The Costa's offer Duo Queensberry albums which is a matted and flushmount album combined. I design their albums a lot like matted albums, which make the images stand out. Also, don't forget to checkout their website, it's out of this world.

Merry Christmas everyone!!!!!! I just wanted to let you know that Albumesque will be closed December 23 - 27th. Everything will be back to normal on the 28th:) I really hope you have the most amazing Christmas.

Black leather is probably the most popular of the covers that are chosen. Don't get me wrong, I think black leather is very classy and you can never go wrong by going that route, but don't forget about the many other options that are offered. Recently one of David Jay's brides wanted me to design an album with a walnut cover. Her wedding was in Hawaii and because I already designed an engagement album with a black leather cover she wanted something a little different. Along with the walnut cover I chose chocolate colored mattes. I can't wait to give the bride the final product. I'm definitely in love with this album:)

Sequences:) Shooting for the moment

And while you're thinking panos...why not think sequences as well? Sequences of a moment are always fun for the couple to re-live and it adds a very nice design element to the book. So, instead of just focusing on the THE shot, try shooting in such a way that allows different expressions to develop throughout a given moment. Some of the best sequences are when you have the bride and groom off by themselves and they can just be silly and whisper things into each other's ear. Kissing scenarios are also great moments to take a sequence of shots that can be used together in a creative way in the album. Other great sequences opportunities are the bride and her father walking down the aisle, the exchange of rings and the kiss. I know most of us shoot tons of shots of the same moment, so just remember when you're editing to keep in those sequences! We love to work with them and we think you'll be excited with the end result!

THINK PANOS:) Tip of the week:)

When shooting do you ever think PANOS??????????

We have tons of photographers who always request panoramics in their albums. Panoramics are beautiful and if I could have the ideal album I would have all panos, so I understand why photographers request them. One thing that might help you when you are shooting is think panos. Pull back a little, give a little more head space, and don't be afraid to place your subject on the side instead of being dead center. You also have to realize that when a layout is printed and bound, they cut into the image anywhere from 1/16 - 3/4 of an inch, which is another reason why you want to leave a little space.

David Jay and Chris humphreys does an amazing job at creating the perfect panos. Here are a couple examples of their work. The first one is David's and the other one is Chris's:)
